Duo All’Aria, Spanish Guitar

“Virtuosity and sensibility: A tribute to Spanish Guitar”

The guitar duo All’Aria was founded in 1997 and it is composed by Nuria Cervantes and María Umbert.

Exponents of a personal way of playing, where the most modern guitar techniques merge with the heritage of centuries of instrumental tradition.

Their musical resources go beyond the traditional role of the guitar, sometimes treating it as a percussion instrument, emulating elements of popular music such as castanets (Spanish music) or the keys (Afro-Cuban music). They often also incorporate the use of the voice.

Their concern for the guitar repertoire has led them to commission transcriptions of works of the scale of “El Sombrero de Tres Picos” and “La Vida Breve” by Manuel de Falla and works by other composers such as Astor Piazzolla, always looking for wealth and diversity in styles and times. They also include works from the Impressionist period, film music and a wide range of works by Cuban authors in their repertoire.

Throughout their career they have also been members of the groups Camera XXI and Barcelona Guitar Ensemble. They have participated in national and international festivals and concert cycles with a great reception from the public.

On the pedagogical side, Maria Umbert is a teacher at the Gracia School of Music in Barcelona and Núria Cervantes is co-director of the School of Music Sis Cordes in Lloret de Mar, where she also teaches the Suzuki Method for Guitar to teachers.
